Portofino:

The Portofino lineup from IWC features elegant pieces that are minimalistic in design and oriented for formal attire. The Portofino lineup is very versatile in terms of having offerings suited for both men and women alike. Many of the pieces are standard on a leather band, with a few metal band variants. Precious metals are prevalent throughout the lineup with many of the women oriented pieces featuring diamonds inset into bezels and on the dials themselves. All in all, this lineup has a versatile array of offerings between case materials, complications, and dial color offerings that are sure to appease a wide array of enthusists.

Automatic (9 Offerings):

The Automatic from the Portofino lineup is a time/date only watch, featuring time on center and a date display at the 3 O’clock position. The Calibre 35111 in the Automatic offers a 42 hour power reserve which is not visible due to the metal case back on these pieces. The 40mm case is offered in both stainless steel and 18K gold, with prices starting at $4700 and topping out at $12800.

Automatic 37 (8 Offerings):

The Automatic 37 as the name suggest, is 37mm in diameter and is comparable to the standard automatic offering above. Sharing the same Calibre 35111 movement, the Automatic 37 has all time on center with a date display window at the 3 O’clock position. While the 37mm variant isn’t the smallest in the Automatic collection, the pieces in this lineup are based toward women with many pieces incorporating diamonds into the dial/bezel; giving them a jewelry based presence. Offered in both stainless steel and 18K gold these pieces start at $5600 and top off at $17900.

Automatic 34 (6 Offerings):

The Automatic 34 is the smallest variant of the automatic lineup coming in with a 34mm case diameter. Like the piece above, the Automatic 34 is geared toward smaller wristed individuals and has a considerable number of jewelry based pieces, incorporating diamonds into the watch. Unlike the previous two automatic pieces, the Automatic 34 uses the Calibre 35100 which offers time only, on center (the date display is eliminated on these pieces). These pieces are offered in both stainless steel and 18K gold with various versions utilizing inset diamonds, all of which fall within the price range from $5300 to $19900.

Chronograph (8 Offerings):

The Chronograph offering is elegantly designed, undoubtedly blending in as part of the Portofino collection. These pieces feature a chronograph function with hours at 6 O’clock, minutes at 12 O’clock and seconds on center. For standard running time, a small seconds sub-dial is located at 9 O’clock with hours and minutes on center, and a day/date window at the 3 O’clock position. The Calibre 75320 sports a 44 hour power reserve and is not visible due to these pieces having a metal case back. The Portofino Chronograph is available in both stainless steel and 18K gold options across various different color schemes and starts at $5800, topping out at $16800 for the precious metal variants.

The Automatic Moonphase takes the simplistic dial design of the standard Automatic above and rather than keep the date complication at 3 O’clock, it is replaced by a moonphase complication at the 12 O’clock location. While information on this piece is rather limited, it does offer a level of simplistic elegance that is sure to dress well in a formal setting. There are currently 2 offerings for this piece, both in stainless steel for a reasonable price of $6900.

The complications on the dial are the same, featuring all time on center and moonphase indicator at the 12 O’clock position. As with many watches in the Portofino collection, these pieces feature a solid case back and are offered in both stainless steel and 18K gold with inset diamonds. The Automatic Moonphase 37 starts at $8500 and caps off at $37900 for the all gold variant featuring an inlayed diamond bezel.

The Hand-Wound 8 Days is an elegant piece from IWC and as the name suggests, is a manual wind movement. With no rotor covering the movement, the case back is naturally a sapphire display back, allowing you to see into the immaculate finishing on the Calibre 59210. Aside from the finish work, this movement has a massive 192 hour power reserve which is shown at the 9 O’clock indicator. Running time is shown with hours and minutes on center, small seconds at the 6 O’clock sub-dial, and a date display at the 3 O’clock position. The Hand-Wound Moonphase can be thought of as a combination of the Automatic Moonphase piece and the Hand-Wound 8 Days piece above. Being a manual wind movement, this watch features a sapphire display back, looking into the immaculately finished Calibre 59800. Similar to the Hand-Wound 8 Days we can see an 8 day power reserve indicator at the 9 O’clock location, hours & minutes on center, small seconds at the 6 O’clock sub-dial, and a date display at 3 O’clock. The addition to this piece is of course the moonphase complication which is displayed at the 12 O’clock position. The Hand-wound Moonphase is offered in both stainless steel and 18K gold with prices ranging from $13000 to $23900.

The last offering in the Portofino lineup and a bit of a standalone offering, is the Hand-Wound tourbillion Retrograde. The Calibre 59900 is a mechanical wind movement that is visible through the sapphire display back case on this piece. This movement features a flying minute tourbillion at the 6 O’clock position, an 8 day power reserve indicator at 3 O’clock and a retrograde date display at the 9 O’clock location. Due to the inherent complexity and stature that comes with a tourbillion piece, this is offered in only 18K gold for a whopping price of $58000.

The Automatic offering in this lineup has the DNA of what a Da Vinci watch emulates, with this piece being rather simple having time on center and a date display at 6 O’clock. The Calibre 35111 in this watch features a 42 hour power reserve and is not visible due to these pieces having metal case backs. The current offerings are in stainless steel only and are listed for a reasonable $5400 to $6400.

Naturally, as with most smaller variants being geared toward women, there is an increase presence of jewelry pieces, utilizing inlayed diamonds and precious metals. That being said, this is directly reflective in the price as the 36mm variant starts at $5400 but tops out at an impressive $37900 for a time/date only watch.

The Perpetual Calendar Chronograph offering is one of the more complicated movements in the Da Vinci lineup. The Calibre 89630 features a perpetual calendar complication with date at 3 O’clock, day at 9 O’clock, month at 6 O’clock, 4 digit year between 7 and 8 O’clock, and moonphase complication at 12 O’clock. In addition to the perpetual calendar, this watch also features a chronograph with hours and minutes added in the 12 O’clock totalizer and seconds on center. Standard running time is shown with hours and minutes on center and small seconds in the 6 O’clock sub-dial. The movement on this piece also features a 68 power reserve and is visible in all its glory through the sapphire case back. The last and possibly the most expensive and distinguished offering in the Da Vinci lineup is the Tourbillion Retrograde Chronograph. This watch encases the Calibre 89900 which features a flying minute tourbillion cage at 6 O’clock, a retrograde date display at 9 O’clock, and of course the chronograph function which totals hours and minutes at 12 O’clock with seconds counted on center. Naturally with a piece of this stature the finished movement can be seen through a sapphire display back case. Because of the complications, full 18k gold case, and complexity required to make this movement, the price tag is a colossal $103000.
